Saint-Pierre in the centre of the
Aosta Valley
The Hôtel-Residence
Château stands in the centre of Saint-Pierre
(650 metres above sea level), a little place in the centre
of the region along the street to Courmayeur.
It is geographically placed
in an ideal starting point to have some walk to the side
valleys as Cogne, Rhemes,
Valsavarenche and Valgrisenche,
maybe discovering the Grand-Paradis National Park
flora and fauna, for a peacefulness holiday.
On the contrary, if you
love dynamic week-ends, you can throw yourself in breathtaking
descents on the ski runs of the many resorts of the neighbourhood.
You can also reach the borders of France and Switzerland
easily.
The Hôtel-Residence
Château, which is placed out of the chaos of
Aosta, allows at the same time to reach the centre of the
town in 10 minutes by car (bus or train), meeting with lodging
demands of professional men, office-workers and students,
on business in the regional province. Even students and
doctors of the Regional Hospital are welcome.
History and
culture in Saint-Pierre
Saint-Pierre is an historical and cultural
site whose most important attractiveness are castles with
their museums.
Castle of Saint-Pierre
Dating back to the eleventh century, it vertically stands
on a rocky spur on our hotel. This fairy castle is maybe
the most photographed monument in the Aosta Valley, thanks
also to its four lateral small towers that make it almost
as a Disneyland castle.
The interior of the building houses the Regional Museum
of Natural Science.
The Regional Museum of Natural Science
It is divided into nine rooms which offer to the visitors
the natural environment of the Aosta Valley and its many
sides : mineralogy, geology, flora and fauna with a special
regard to the magnificent stuffed chamois and ibex, the
masters of the Grand Paradis National Park.
Castle of Sarriod de la Tour
Not very far from the most famous castle of Saint-Pierre
but with a more harmonious aspect, the more authentic castle
of Sarriod de la Tour stands, surrounded by meadows and
orchards. Open to the public all year round, this medieval
residence dating back to the fifteenth century deserves
a visit, above all to the hall of honour, whose coffered
ceiling is decorated with more than 800 carved figures,
and for the frescos decorating the chapel, dating back to
400.
These two important monuments
constitute a privilege of Saint-Pierre, called “the
country of castles”, but the Hôtel-Residence
Château can be an important starting point
to besiege the other castles of the region:
• Castle of Aymavilles, 2 km far from
Saint-Pierre
• Castle of Sarre, 3 km far from Saint-Pierre
• Castle of Fenis, 25 km far from Saint-Pierre
• Castle of Ussel, 40 km far from Saint-Pierre
• Castle of Verres, 46 km far from Saint-Pierre
• Castle of Issogne, 47 km far from Saint-Pierre
• Fortress of Bard, 54 km far from Saint-Pierre
